Serene and Cozy 1-Bedroom House with Parking

Perfect for a weekend stay

Pros: Good location, a 20 minute taxi ride to Audley End Music Event. (we usually find available accommodation is around this distance) Property is in a quiet location with off road parking. Very clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Shower pressure was powerful and refreshing. Free WiFi at the property. Check in was hassle free with a key available upon arrival. There were Three of us staying at the property and it was perfect for our weekend stay. I would recommend this property.

Great granny unit but you have to bus into town for sightseeing

Pros: The facility is like an attached granny unit (hence 40A not 40) which is completely self-contained, very nicely furnished, and with a fine kitchen. The parking out front is free and great and safe. We used this as a base to spend several long days in Cambridge, and it was perfect for that. There is nothing close by to walk to, no pub, supermarket, restaurant, etc, so you really need a car to do anything like that. A bus runs by the house but we had no idea of the schedule. You can't drive into town since Cambridge actively discourages cars by charging exorbitant prices for parking. They want it to be mainly a bus/bike/walk town. Once we got used to the routine, though, we appreciated the huge saving we got by staying outside of town. When we first looked for a booking, the in-town hotels were unbelievably expensive (you can of course stay in the student dorms during summer break if you enjoy a hosteling experience with little privacy).

Cons: We wished that the owners had told us about parking options in advance, because it's way too far to walk into town. They should leave the bus schedule in the apartment and let you know where it is, and also information about the great Park and Ride system whereby you just drive to Trumpington Park and Ride, park all day for free there, and take the bus (every 10 min) into town for 3 pounds per person round trip. Also, a better description of the exact location of the house would have helped. We drove by but couldn't see the number at the speed traffic forces you to drive (and the fact you have to keep 100 percent focus on the road because of all the bike riders), and wound up parking nearby and walking to find the place. You have to be prepared to make a quick turn into a narrow entrance while the heavy traffic is tailgating you.

Pros: The location was terrific for us. We could walk to the train station, marketplace/shopping, and bus stops. The hosts were great to deal with. Absolutely no complaints!
