Pros: The Dog Inn is a traditional English pub with comfortable rooms, located near the historic centre of Halstead. My sister and I got a warm and helpful welcome from Richard, the owner and host. He offered us a choice of room, upgrading our booking to a large triple family from a twin at no extra cost. The locals in the bar that evening were welcoming and friendly - there was a genuine community spirit! Richard offered to provide cutlery and crockery when we opted for a takeaway - conveniently delivered. We appreciated the comfortable beds and crisp, fresh white bedlinen and spotlessly clean ensuite bathroom. An excellent breakfast was served in the morning at our chosen time. First rate!

Pros: Perfect location, & 5*for Richard, breakfast Perfect, friendly helpful had a lovely stay.

Cons: Room just needs maybe a better clean, mould on ceiling & shower ,limescale, very dusty. But still enjoyed the stay.

Great Breakfast & Lovely Local Pub

Pros: I would highly recommend The Dog Inn. The owner Richard made me feel very welcome, the bed was really comfortable and had gluten free options for breakfast.

Friendly pub with great breakfast

Pros: We have stayed a number of times and it was nice to see Richard, the landlord again. He makes sure that our stay is stress-free. He ensured the breakfast options were available for our party, which included small soya milk sachets for my wife in the bedroom for her tea aswell as large carton for breakfast. On this occasion we needed a second room for other family members which he kindly sourced a cot. The rooms are above a friendly pub which was ideal for us to meet up with other relatives in the evening.

Will stay again if working in the area.

It was perfect for my needs

Cons: Personal preference - not keen on children in bars but it appears to be a local and I was the visitor
