The Bull has been a coaching inn in the Essex village of Halstead for 500 years. This traditional pub offers rooms with free Wi-Fi, a lively bar and home-cooked food. Great comfortable sized rooms with great pub downstairs.

Pros: Great size rooms. Hotel excellent location to walk to town.

Cons: A bit pricey.

We had a good stay, a good night's sleep, delicious breakfast and lovely staff.

Pros: The room was nice, plenty of space to hang our clothes (suit and outfit for a funeral) there was an iron and ironing board in our room already so we didn't have to ask which was great as our clothes needed ironing, plenty of nice tea and coffee provided not cheap ones, the bed was really comfortable and 2 pillows provided each, (I have been to lots of places where we only get 1 pillow each.. The bathroom is small and quite dated but everything was clean and worked perfectly, good shower and hot water, mirror with light and charging point that worked for razor and toothbrush... Plenty of plugs around the bed for charging devices, and good signal for our phones in the room too. The breakfast was delicious, lovely apple juice, and the man who was serving was very nice, it was peaceful which is just what we needed before the day ahead we had, thank you.

Cons: There wasn't anything that we needed that we didn't have, we had abit of trouble parking when we arrived back to the hotel quite late in the evening, I think maybe people in the pub also use the car park, the bathroom is dated but it is clean and everything works well.

Perfect

Pros: Loved it. What a beautiful building. Old and beautiful. Lovely little room with charming original beams, even an original fireplace upstairs on the landing. Food was great. Prices were very reasonable staff really friendly. Will recommend to others and WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK. 😁💜

Pre-wedding stay

Pros: I stayed for one night (Saturday) ahead of wedding taking place at Gosfield Hall. The staff were professional, kind and helpful, especially when I rather embarrassingly locked myself out of my room. My room was clean and well presented.

Cons: Not a criticism as such as I didn't mind, but I believe my room (room 10) was directly above the pub so I was able to pick up some of the noise. The activity dropped off just before 11pm. This may be a slight concern for anyone who likes an early night and/or is a light sleeper (I'm neither which is why I wasn't bothered)
