Situated in the quiet hamlet of Littley Green in the heart of the Essex countryside, The Compasses is a Victorian Pub steeped in history and tradition. With free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi access for all guests, it also offers a bar and a restaurant. Great welcome, great beer and food, lovely room to match.

Pros: Great reception from Emma and the team - made to feel very welcome. Beer - what a choice! Food was well presented and very tasty. Fantastic pub - would highly recommend a stay there.

Cons: Had a slight problem with the lock on the bedroom door. All resolved.

Lovely stay and comfortable room!

Pros: Lovely comfortable rooms, good shower and heating (February when we stayed). Great staff, happy to help, especially when we needed an iron. Could have had a little more milk for tea / coffee in the morning but not a problem.

Stay at the compasses

Pros: Loved the pub and the room a bit out of the road especially having no transport but staff room food were all very nice.

Cons: A bit out the road without a car a bit stranded

Great location and good to have the pub linked to the accommodation

Pros: It was in a wonderful location and really great for our little dog. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

We had a lovely comfortable stay at the compasses, would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

Pros: We attended a wedding nearby and booked an overnight stay at compasses, arriving early to enjoy a beautiful traditional English pub, great food and a great pint with very friendly staff.

This was a perfect stay, I felt safe as a lone female traveller and would recommend staying here.

Pros: My room was perfect, underfloor heating which made the room incredibly cosy. The pub was fabulous, with a roaring fire, welcoming staff and locals and delicious food.

Cons: The only thing I could comment on is the lighting in the bedroom. It was a small room (perfect for me) but it had 2 huge chandeliers which made the room incredibly bright, and then 2 small spot light (bedside lights) which were too dim.

Experience a traditional English pub at its best with superior accommodation

Pros: A vibrant and friendly English pub with rooms that was very welcoming with delicious food and drink and has won many awards for its cask ales and cider. Perfect location for our visit near Chelmsford being in the countryside and only 11 miles from Stansted airport, it may be remote for some but is so much better than the usual bland corporate hotels and a rare find nowadays.

Great place to stay, expecially if going to Chelmsford Racecourse.

Pros: The room had everything we needed and was very warm on a cold day. We had a very good supper in the evening and excellent poached eggs on toast for breakfast the next morning.

Cons: A 10:00am checkout seemed a little early although it worked fine for our needs on this occasion. We didn't ask to extend.
